How it works

Pilocarpine is a cholinergic (muscarinic) agonist that stimulates receptors in the eye. It:

• Causes the pupil to constrict (miosis).
• Contracts the ciliary muscle, opening the drainage channels of the eye.
• Increases the outflow of aqueous humor (the fluid inside the eye).
