Product Details
- Name: Gaviscon Double Action Liquid (Sodium Alginate, Calcium Carbonate, and Sodium Bicarbonate).
- How It Works: Gaviscon works physically, not just chemically. The alginate reacts with stomach acid to form a thick gel or “raft” that floats on the stomach contents, preventing acid from flowing back up into the esophagus (food pipe). The carbonate and bicarbonate act as fast-acting antacids to neutralize excess acid immediately.
- Form: Oral Liquid Suspension (typically available in 150ml, 300ml, or 600ml bottles).
- Warning:
- Sodium Content: Contains a high amount of sodium; use with caution if you are on a very low-salt diet, or have high blood pressure or heart failure.
- Calcium Content: Use with caution if you have kidney problems or a history of kidney stones.
- Administration: It should be taken after meals and at bedtime for maximum effectiveness. Do not lie flat immediately after taking it.
- Interactions: Can affect the absorption of other medications; take Gaviscon at least 2 hours apart from other drugs.
