How It Works:
Cabergoline mimics dopamine, a chemical naturally produced by the brain. It binds directly to the dopamine D2 receptors on specialized cells within your pituitary gland. This signal tells the pituitary gland to immediately stop creating and releasing prolactin into your bloodstream. Because it binds so tightly to these receptors, cabergoline is long-acting and requires very infrequent dosing.
