How it works

The two medicines lower blood pressure in different ways:

• Telmisartan blocks the action of angiotensin II, a hormone that narrows blood vessels. This relaxes blood vessels and lowers blood pressure.
• Amlodipine relaxes the muscles in the walls of blood vessels by blocking calcium entry into those muscles. This widens the blood vessels and improves blood flow.
