How Betahistine works
Betahistine is a histamine analogue that acts mainly on H1 and H3 histamine receptors. It is thought to:
- Improve blood flow in the inner ear, particularly around the cochlea and vestibular system.
- Reduce abnormal pressure/fluid buildup in the inner ear, which can contribute to Ménière’s symptoms.
- Help the brain compensate for disturbances in the balance system, which can reduce episodes of vertigo over time.
