How loratadine works

When you have an allergy, your body releases a chemical called histamine. Histamine can cause sneezing, runny nose, itching, watery eyes, and similar symptoms.

Loratadine blocks histamine (H1) receptors, reducing these allergy symptoms. It is generally considered a non-drowsy/less-sedating antihistamine, although some people can still become sleepy.
