How it works

Dapagliflozin works by blocking the sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) in the kidneys. This:

• Reduces the reabsorption of glucose back into the bloodstream.
• Increases the amount of glucose excreted in the urine.
• Lowers blood sugar levels independently of insulin.
• Can also reduce strain on the heart and help protect kidney function in eligible patients.
