Co-codamol works through the combined action of its two ingredients:

• Paracetamol (acetaminophen) reduces pain signals and helps lower fever by acting on the brain and nervous system.
• Codeine is a mild opioid. After you take it, the liver converts some of it into morphine, which attaches to opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord to reduce how strongly pain is felt.
