How it works

Both antibiotics work by:

• Blocking formation of the bacterial cell wall
• Weakening the bacteria so they burst and die

Why the combination is useful

• Ampicillin has broad activity against many bacteria
• Cloxacillin helps fight bacteria that produce penicillinase (an enzyme that destroys some penicillin antibiotics)

Together, they provide broader antibacterial coverage.
