How it works (simple)

1. Artesunate – fast action

• Artesunate quickly enters infected red blood cells
• It releases toxic free radicals inside the parasite
• These damage and kill the malaria parasite very fast

 This is why symptoms (fever, weakness) often improve quickly.

2. Amodiaquine – longer action

• The parasite feeds on blood and produces a toxic waste (heme)
• Amodiaquine blocks the parasite from neutralizing this toxin
• The toxin builds up and kills the parasite
