How it works in the body

  1. DNA and RNA production
    • Cells need folate to make DNA and RNA, the genetic material required for cell growth and division.
    • This is especially important in rapidly growing tissues, such as during pregnancy, infancy, and the production of blood cells.
  2. Red blood cell formation
    • Bone marrow uses folate to produce healthy red blood cells.
    • Without enough folate, red blood cells can become abnormally large and ineffective, leading to a type of anemia called Megaloblastic Anemia.
