Step-by-step: how it works

1. Binds to receptors
   It activates α₁-adrenergic receptors on tiny blood vessels (capillaries) in the white part of your eye (conjunctiva).
2. Blood vessels constrict
   This causes the vessels to narrow (vasoconstriction).
3. Less blood flow = less redness
   Red eyes look red because those vessels are widened and full of blood.
   When they shrink:
   • Blood flow decreases
   • The redness visibly fades
